Giveaway Spridget at Sprite Jubilee 2008

Sprite Jubilee giveaway Spridget .... Update 1-20-08

A date, Saturday February 17 through Wednesday 21, 2008, has been set in an attempt to see if the we can put together the Sprite Jubilee Spridget.

If you would like to donate some of your time, materials, parts and expertise to help with this project contact Rick Moses.  Email dr.moses@verizon.net or telephone 877-748-3165.  You do not have to be a Spridget expert to lend a hand!!!

At minimum, if we cannot get the car to a giveaway condition, we want to put it back on the road.  The Sprite Jubilee car would then be available for those coming to Sprite Jubilee without a Spridget.  Anybody registered can use it for the many scheduled events.

Work will be done in one of two small heated garages.  A list of what appears to be needed for this car is located at: http://www.austinhealeysprite.org/gaway_helpneed.html

At this point in time we will not change the car by adding a Bugeye bonnet, numbers 5 through 12, or painting it gold, numbers 14 through 16.  John Plankey from Florida will be exchanging the transmission.  I have taken time off from my patients to help.

Food, beverage will be provided.  Accommodations in three apartments will also be provided as needed and space allows. Please let me know if you are coming.

The SJ Spridget is located at 1421 East Chocolate Avenue, Hershey, PA 17033 so you can Google the map directions or just call us.

Thank you for considering this request.

As many of you have discovered each five year SPRITE Meet Anniversary we try to do something special, even a little spectacular to make it interesting for those who participate in these SPRITE Newsletter events. The 50th Anniversary Gathering for the Bugeye should be extra special! By giving away a Spridget the 50th will be unique and even more memorable to those of us who attend and love these little cars.

It is my dream for the 50th to give away a Spridget within our little group of SJ’08 Meet registered enthusiasts. I have one more Bugeye waiting for restoration that could be given away BUT it needs a lot of work. With the time that remains before our Sprite Jubilee 2008 show I was grappling with how to make this dream come true.

It struck me one day while SPRITE day dreaming. I have a nice looking red 1968 MG Midget with chrome bumpers. It is a keeper but it doesn’t need too much to become the Give Away car for SJ’08. Plus, I still have some Bugeye bonnets in storage. Putting the two of these thoughts together I imagined a Spridget with a Golden colored bonnet sitting on a later bodied car. The best of both realms. It would be and example of both the first Sprite with its unique bonnet and its younger sister’s body style. What do you think? A golden 50th logo on the car’s, boot, doors or rockers would just set-it-off nicely.

If there is enough help we can put together three gold colored Bugeye bonnets. The second and third bonnet could be a second and third prize during the Give Away. If you were “bummed-out” about not winning the SJ’08 grand prize, The Golden Spridget, winning a golden bonnet would be nice.

I am willing to put a lot of my own money into this dream BUT I can’t and do not want to do it all by myself. Something special has been done for each of the past anniversaries and I am sure, if it is humanly possible, we can do it again for SJ’08.

Are there some enthusiasts to help with the build-up of this car and these bonnets? Anything you are willing to do will help. The car can be moved about on my trailer if that is more convenient. Would you contact your favorite parts supply houses and mechanic shops on behalf of SJ’08 to help us? Will you give some of your time with me to put this car together? Time is short!

A “Give Away Help Needed” list of what is left to be done is currently available to those that are interested. If you help a plaque will be placed on the vehicle with those people who volunteered their time and materials.

Giving away a Spridget is a nice way to honor the all of the Sprites and Midgets at the Sprite’s 50th Anniversary. Your suggestions as to how to build this Golden Spridget and how to be fair in giving it away would be greatly appreciated.

Would you please pass this information around with other Spridget enthusiasts on your email and internet spaces?
