The buck stops here …
Have a question, suggestion or compliment? Need some help or having a problem
and are upset with any part of Sprite Jubilee? Don’t sit and steam! You’ve guessed it,the FIRST person to contact day or night is Rick Moses. Everything about this gathering has
been planned. Every dot has been placed and every ‘T’ crossed. As you can imagine things
can go aerie. It has been and again is MY PLEASURE throughout this gathering to make sure
everything goes smoothly, iron out any bumps in the road and make sure each individual is
having fun. This meet more than any before it is my desire to be in the background orchestrating
the details. SPRITE’s reputation is on the line again but foremost in my mind is your enjoyment.
The best way to reach me at the meet, 24 hours / day, is by my cell phone 717-379-5752. Don’t hesitate, just pickup the phone and talk with me.

Contrubutions … Sprite Jubilee is a not for profit venture.
All of our past meets are not for profit.
At the end of the meet we need to break even financially. We keep the cost of our anniversary party
unbelievably low by only charging what we need for all of us to have fun. We all share the costs equally! Everybody at SJ08 has paid their equal share to participate in the show. This includes Rick, his family & Cindy.
There is no club treasury to buildup. All contributions of money, car parts, auction and raffle table items,
Sprite-Healey-British regalia and the like are gratefully accepted. If you are able please help us by donation
something you feel is of value for our cause. THANK YOU!

Weather …
May in central Pennsylvania is darn right beautiful leaving winter behind and hinting of the sun and heat of summer.
Our time mid month will boast of new green growth everywhere. Cold early mornings will require you to pack
coats/hats &gloves. While an early spring will bring sunny mid mornings and afternoons that are down right
pleasant so do bring some short/long sleeved shirts. April showers bring May flowers gives you the mental
picture of Spring in this neck of the country. Flowers are popping up every where! A late spring can lead to
more showers in mid May. Be sure to pack rain gear, an umbrella and a waterproof cover for your show cars. The show goes on rain or shine even if Pennsyl-rania lives up to what some joking call our state in May.
It IS the month we get the most rain.
Over the past 30 years of our 4 SPRITE shows we have never had an event rained out. Back 20 years ago
a rain storm waited until we finished our Funkhana event and then went around us. Lord willing our 50th party
will be granted clemency again. |
|
What if … my British car breaks down.
Not to worry! We have you covered & are prepared for anything! Jay Sevier … on site help! Jay can spot your problem and get you going if anybody can. He is like a genie that
can fix anything right their in the parking lot or out on the road if need be. He comes complete with a vehicle
full of pieces and parts.
There will be numerous trailers available to help! (Many have volunteered to help with their personal trailers,
just in case.)
Merriman Modifications & Kelby Steel Motors are our closest resident professional sports car shops standing
by just in case you have a major problem. They will get you back on the road as soon as humanly possible.
They stock hundreds of parts and have the knowhow to do anything! |
|
Parking
FREE…Ample expanses of car & trailer parking.
Protected, centrally located, lighted, asphalted, designated show car parking area with limited access.
Hotel security! |

Giveaway Bugeye …
Giving away a Bugeye at the 50th anniversary show was a dream as far back as the early 2000’s for me.
I gave it my best shot but I could not and did not want to do it all by myself. The dream was anybody
that wanted to help restore a Bugeye for the 50th could participate. The giveaway car could be taken
by trailer anywhere in the country by those participating to rejuvenate it. The car would be painted
gold and a plate with all the donors and helpers would be attached. The car would proudly be badge
engineered as the Sprite Jubilee car and given away at the 50th anniversary golden jubilee show.
As it has turned out even giving away a Spridget is now doubtful. The dream lives on only in my mind …
3-12-08 Here is an update. With the help of quite a few devoted mechanics we are getting closer to being able to present the Sprite Jubilee 2008 Giveaway Spridget to some lucky registered participant at SJ08 on Tuesday night may, 20th 2008.

Regalia sales for gasoline ...
Over the past year Cindy & Rick have attended numerous British car events.
They have been selling various British, Sprite & Healey regalia. Unknown to the buyers all proceeds from
these sales will be donated to SJ08 being split between duly registered Sprite Jubilee guests. Gold coins
(because this is the golden jubilee) have been obtained to give out the last day of SJ08 to offset some of
the cost of gasoline to attend our event. It is a small symbolic gesture of thanks for sharing your time to
join us at SJ08.

Helpers …
Since the early 1980’s Sprite Newsletters has kiddingly boasted of having SPRITE elves working their little
fingers to the bone with all our various projects. SPRITE Newsletters, the Global Austin-Healey Sprite
Registry, avalanches of letters, emails & phone calls/toll free SPRITE numbers, websites & every 5 year
Sprite Anniversaries … it is no wonder one can imagine there really are elves. AND, truly without the help
of hundreds of dedicated Sprite enthusiasts like you none of SPRITE would be remotely possible.
If you wish to help with Sprite Jubilee 2008, NOW is the time to volunteer. WE DO NEED YOUR HELP!!! Contact Rick Moses & Cindy Bomgardner NOW by phone or email. At all the past SPRITE functions, during
the meets, scores of attendees come and volunteer their help. While well meaning, volunteering at the time
of the meet may or may not be helpful. Please realize it is difficult to convey in a few sentences what is in
the works cooking over the past months or years regarding planed activities for our current gathering.
In honor of all the elves (helpers) from the past and those that will once again give unselfishly of their time,
efforts &finances to make a great Sprite Jubilee show we would like to propose a contest. Those of you
that will be helpful elves at SJ08 need to dress the part. Yes, dress up as an elf! First, it will be fun.
When was the last time you really had fun? Second, it will set you apart from all of the attendees as a
friendly SJ08 helper and look neat. Ultimately, you will be in the running for the best dressed, friendliest
and most unusually unique male & female elves at SJ08. Ok, maybe it will be a simple elf hat, vest & gold
sash but here is the invitation to go all out and let your imagination run wild. We all will enjoy your
ingenuity, the sky is the limit! Now go and elf yourself. |
|
Our honored & special guests …

If you have a topic you would like to present we are eager to have your services!

us at SJ08. He will honor us with his vast Spridget mechanical experiences and resent technical sessions

your technical questions and pick Daniel's mind about how to spruce up the mechanicals of your pride and
joy. He will be with us over the entire Meet. Take a moment to view the photos Daniel has sent us to
display on our website home page http://www.austinhealeysprite.org/ You have conversed with
him via email now enjoy him in person. Don't miss this exceptional opportunity! SJ08 will be here

the Carlisle-Import-KitcarNationals show. You will be able to identify the SPRITE tent by the large
Austin-Healey Sprite banners (2 feet by 14 feet) around and attached to the tent. Another dead giveaway
that you have found the SPRITE tent will be all the Sprite show cars being displayed.
The SPRITE tent will be located on the non-judged Show Car Field. It will possibly be adjacent to the
Austin-Healey Sports & Touring Club’s tent. The non-judged Show Car Field is about 10 acres of manicured
grass with asphalted enter / exit drive lanes. This area is directly in front of the huge grandstand in the middle
of the Carlisle Fairgrounds. All the foreign car clubs have a tent on this show field. If you go to the

need to give the Sprite Jubilee show. The more people who bring things the more fun for everybody.

Carlisle Import Show and vend at Sprite Jubilee. Others will come specifically to our resort for our enjoyment. |

FUNKHANA … What the heck is a Funkhana? A Fun what? … a Khana?
Simply put, it is a timed,
low speed/stop & go, maybe some reverse gear driving event with our show cars. Two contestants the
passenger and driver are both involved in various fun antics attempting to navigate a short fun driving course.
There may be as many as 10 various stations to negotiate. It is fun for the entire family cause the passenger
need not be an adult. Depending upon the crowds, time permitting, one usually gets three tries at the course.
|
|
“Drag” race … sheer determination not speed (Sunday, 5-17-08, 9:00 am – Noon, 500 rooms parking
lot Hotel Carlisle. )
Here is a fun event for everybody to do and watch close up and personal. It is inspired by Frank Clarici et al.
Not that sports cars are super fast at drag racing but this “drag” race is possible because of our car’s
diminutive size not over all blistering speed. In our drag event a sports car will be pulled by a team.
Choose any SJ08 registered sports car to drag. Tether the underside of the car, not the bumper or muffler,
so your team can pull the car. No you can not push the car. We will provide a suitable tether.
Let’s call the pullers the ‘pit crew.’ With the motor not running the driver steers the car through a
very short almost straight course passing over a prescribed start and finish line. Winning competitors
will be judged by time from start to finish line not the amount of uttered verbiage & grunting.
So, plan your team members and light weight driver now! Or, make up your team at the show.
The ‘pit crew’ team can be up to any four people or family. Individual pit crew members can make up
any team to win in this event. Each diverse team gets at least one try to win, well as many tries as time
will allow all particular teams to run equal tries. The driver does not have to be of legal age to drive but
must be able to see past the steering wheel, over the bonnet and their feet must be able to reach the
breaks to stop the car.
As with all of our SJ08 events prizes will be determined by the number of contestants. Family and all female drag teams will compete against other like teams for prizes. |
|
English Style Tea & Autograph Session … (Sunday 5-18-08 1:00 pm – 2 pm, Kistler Room, Hotel Carlisle)
It is our desire to create the ambiance of an authentic low English tea as an honor to the English heritage of
our little cars. Experience this brief glimpse of cordial English friendship with other Sprite acquaintances and
our honored & special guests. The atmosphere of the Hotel Carlisle Kistler Room is befitting the mood of
our tea.
Hot boiling water with steeped Tetley, Premium Black tea will give us a rich, full bodied authentic
British blend of tea leaves as our beverage. Besides our special tea, this early afternoon treat will feature authentic English scones (recipe compliments of Marian Coker). It is bound to be a special
time you will savor long after our golden jubilee is memories.
Bring your own tea cup! Don’t have a special tea cup? Dah! Well, keep your eyes open for
something ornate this spring yard sale season. Let’s make it more interesting by offering special
prizes for the most unique tea cups brought to our tea. (“Don’t bring your families delicate heirloom
in your Bugeye.” It’s ok if you are driving a later Sprite or big Healey to SJ08. )
Don’t forget your fine line permanent marker sharpie pen. Our tea will be another great
opportunity to obtain that special autograph and pack in a few personal moments with our honored & special guests. We will try to provide special posters, photos & mementos throughout the meet that
will be keepsakes for years to come. |

Sprite Maze …
The Maze event will be a new for this show too. Here is some explanation about
what to expect. Go to http://www.hotelcarlisle.com/gallery.htm and take the Virtual Tour
called the 'EXPANSIVE GROUNDS.' We have acres of manicured flat, non-bumpy grass land to
enjoy. Can you picture in your mind’s eye a very big Maze covering perhaps the size of one to
two football fields? Four foot high white plastic posts and colored cord connecting them will
provide a humungous maze. Numerous cars, perhaps four or more, Spridget size to Big Healeys
will enter the maze at one time from different directions. They will try to find their way to the
prize in the centerof the maze. Don’t worry nobody will memorizing the maze because it will
change numerous times during the event providing a new challenge each time for each heat of
participants. Each group will have a certain amount of time for one car to reach the prize.
There will be enough space in the lanes to pass other participants, turn around or back up.
The speed will be VERY SLOW and deliberate because if you spin your wheels in the grass or slide and
mess up the lane you will be disqualified and you must stop immediately in your tracks plus
repair the divot you have made with a rake and new grass seed. When time is up or a winner
finds the prize you will be escorted out of the maze. A different and unique event but then
you must take into account who has thought it up … Moses. If you think this is interesting
there are lots more surprises.

Rally … with photographic start (Monday, 5-19-08, 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm, start main
entrance Hotel Carlisle.)
400 miles and 8 hours on the rally it ends somewhere in no-man’s land where no one wants to be
and does not have a name. Three tanks of gas, two flat tires and four states away with a big
smile on our face you call long distance for help “I’m lost, frazzled, copilot has bailed out a good
while back, stick me I’m done. PLEASE send the Cavalry or a trash compactor.” At the awards
ceremony three days later you sit through two hours of, “and in 42nd place Mildred and
Reg Smee with a time of 10 hours three seconds and accumulated rally questions score of one
million two hundred points. Let’s hear it for the Smees? AND, In 41st place ... bla, bla, bla.”
Not in our turf, not in our house! Our Rally Master of many campaigns, Reid Trummel, and of
nine times across the United States in various Healeys fame, will put us though our Rally paces at
Sprite Jubilee. NOT!!!! Do expect the best rally cleaver minds can create. Something for
everybody. Remember, Reid has never lost a contestant.
Our professional photographer will catch you just before you leave on your Rally trek.
Look pretty and say cheese for the camera. Everybody is invited for this picture op!
We want to record this show for posterity. |

Auctions at Sprite Jubilee ...
Live auctions at our past SPRITE events have always been quite lively with lots of neat Sprite, Healey, British & sports car stuff. Sometimes we have some crazy
stuff too. Our auctions will be extra special because we are honored by having two spirited
auctioneers CRAIG ANDERSON from Kent, Washington & JIM DANIELSON from Lincoln, Nebraska.
(Yo, we were going to have some local Pennsylvania Dutch auctioneers for atmosphere but I
don’t believe you-all speak their version of German. Most of them sell farms, equipment, horses,
and chickens and would think a Sprite is a little mythical creature. )
We will have very interesting items for our silent auctions too. Below are some of the things we will
be auctioning off at Sprite Jubilee ’08.
We encourage everybody to bring something to donate for the live & silent auctions and our raffle
tables. If you can bringing something and want to take a picture of it we will post it here among
the other items prior to our gathering for maximum exposure. Actually most anything will do.
We appreciate your support and donations because at the end of the day we need to break even
financially. We are not a club and as such do not carry money from one five year event to the
next event. |
Ed McMahon from New York will be bringing his 25 year collection of Sprite memorabilia to SJ08. Wow, I know Ed’s personality and he collects unique items which will be in superb condition and should blow your socks off. I will list various items in his collection and any photos as I am able.
|
| Bob Magnotti has donated a framed water color print titled "California Bugeye" which is #59 of 500 produced by artist Bill Stroud. |
|
|
We have saved four (4) signed & numbered official Sprite Jubilee ’08 posters for our auctions. Those numbers are #1, #50, #58 and #100. These are the last of these special posters! They will be sold at SJ08 and then none will be left except from collectors. |

Banquet/50th Anniversary Party … (Tuesday, 5-20-08, 6:00 pm - 11:00 pm, Grand Ballroom, Hotel Carlisle)
Our banquet Tuesday evening May 20, 2008 will not be a ho-hum happening but Sprite history in the making! May 20th 2008 is THE actual announcement date of the Austin-Healey Sprite 50 long years ago. What better time to celebrate the Sprite than the actual date the car was announcement. While we may think of 2008 as the year of the frog the Sprite’s birthday is the day when it was announced to the world.
It is befitting we celebrate this momentous event in a joyous, festive, & honoring mood. In keeping with these objectives we ask you to prepare for this auspicious occasion. The 50th party will be a black tie event. Na, it is not going to hurt you to dress up this one time in 2008. This is Sprite bling bling night! Put away your tee shirts, old shoes and greasy duds for this one evening. Yes, you will have room in your Sprite for your spiffy attire. The ladies like it and it will purvey the mood we wish to create this evening in particular with the proper ambiance due Sprites everywhere for giving us 50 years of pleasure.
Our formal attire will complement our tasty menu & special dining music. Not only will it be a special time of dining and wine you will also have fun with our entertainment. We have numerous Sprite skits in the making to bring a smile, reminisce, participate and enjoy. There will be something for every taste. It will be like an interactive dinner theater. Actually, an 18th century theater where you can participate and interact with the actors. Never been to an 18th century theater show? The rules are simple. Hazahs (21st century hoorays), boos (If you don’t like it you hiss & boo.), encores (for a particularly exciting line or performance) and out right interaction with the actors is the name of the game. All this and many more surprises! Leave it to Moses to think up something extra spectacular for the night to leave with special memories.
Don’t miss this evening because it will only happen once and we can never duplicate it again! |
|
Recognition of those who have attended the past SPRITE events … (Tuesday 5-20-08 Grand Banquet Room Hotel Carlisle)
Hundreds of Sprites and thousands of enthusiasts have attended the every 5 year SPRITE meets since the inception of the SPRITE anniversary parties in the late 1980s. These special, faithful Sprite spirits have been to every event and permeated our hearts. We will honor these people who have been so important to our success Tuesday evening at our 50th anniversary banquet extravaganza. |
|
Recognition of those celebrating wedding anniversaries & birthdays …
Tell us if your wedding anniversary or birthday coincides with the dates of our meet. We have something special for you! Once every five years our Cindy elf gives up her birthday to serve others at these SPRITE shows. Heck, I guess she doesn’t really mind cause she is only 29 by my count. |
|
SPRITE skits … (Tuesday, 5-20-08, 8:30 pm - 11:00 pm, Grand Ballroom, Hotel Carlisle)
Do you or any of your buddies have theatrical aspirations? Let’s do it at Sprite Jubilee! There’s plenty of room for other renditions. Get your act together! |
Act 1 – Introducing the Brand-New Austin-Healey Sprite Sports Car … May 20, 1958.
Re-live a moment in history we have made for you, one half century ago, when the Donald Healey Motor Company launched the innovative Sprite sports cars. Be apart of the anticipation and amazement of seeing a brand new automotive creation. You will be there! Kirsten Snow, Del Border’s daughter, in the dress fashion of the period, will be our car show model guide pointing out the Sprite’s features.
|
Act 2 – Sprite Advertising jingle & sing along with video slide show Sprite magazine advertisements.
In a day of radio and magazines, Healey advertisers wisely made wonderful fun with the cute little Sprites. Rick’s Nephew Jeff Habecker and fellow artists of song will lead a sing along revival of the simple 1950’s Sprite advertising jingle. Not since the thirtieth Sprite anniversary in 1988 have you heard this tune. Sing and clap along with us to the tunes.
|
Act 3 – Donald Healey Tribute & Unseen Past Video of Donald at His Best.
A fitting, solemn and quiet pantomime tribute to Donald Healey and background of year’s old, never seen VHS video of THE MAN will climax our evening of skit presentations. Like aged Scotch whiskey Donald’screation has stood the test of time. Our touching skit should bring back many fond oldmemories.

SPRITE anniversary cake … (Tuesday, 5-20-08, 8:30 pm - 11:00 pm, Grand Ballroom, Hotel Carlisle)
Every anniversary deserves a special cake the Sprite’s Golden anniversary is no exception. Back in 1988 the SPRITE cake was trouble all around. First, it took something like 10 batches of cake mix to make. Not knowing any better, we brought out our rendition of a three dimentional Bugeye Sprite sports car cake and were promptly chastised by the convention center director that they had to be the ones who provide all the food. Right, as if they could make a cake that looked like a Bugeye! Secondly, the cake was not eaten. Everybody took photos of it and devoured the Brit flag cupcakes surrounding it. Problem, the cake had to be taken home. While driving home a computer on a mobile cabinet rolled forward in the RV and the monitor fell, SPLAT, screen first into the cake; The result was, monitor saved, Bugeye cake a totally loss.
As we have each fifth year anniversary we will make a Sprite cake again for the 50th. This cake will be super duper special! This time let’s eat it! |

Awards & prizes … Our SPRITE awards and prizes for Sprite Jubilee 2008 will again be hand made and unique. They are the same as our show, unique. The award guru is Dean Hedin. Show after how he outdoes himself with beautiful creations. This show will be no exception.
All of our SJ08 events awards and prizes will be determined by the number of contestants. There will be plenty to go around. Everybody enjoys winning something! Children, young adults and women will compete against each other. Although often the women beat the men.
You must be present at SJ08 awards ceremonies to win an award or prize! Winners will be announced as fast as humanly possible as soon after the end of each event. It makes for a long and boring evening if a lot of time is lost in long winded presentations. Yes, as hard to believe as it may be the next runner up will claim the win if the apparent first place person is absent at the time of giving out the winnings. No, somebody else cannot pick up your winnings for you. There is no fun for the group in mailing out everyone’s awards. We want to see the smiling faces of the winners. Sorry, but that is how we have run all our events over the past four shows and it has worked quite well thank you. |
